Jordan commends UNESCO Hebron decision

AMMAN  — Jordan on Friday praised the UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee decision on Hebron and the Ibrahimi Mosque, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The decision, taken during the 41st session of UNESCO’s World Heritage currently held in Poland, has recognised the old city of Hebron in the West Bank as a Palestinian world heritage site, including the Ibrahimi Mosque known to the Israelis as the Tomb of the Patriarchs.

The decision considered the Old City and the mosque as endangered world heritage sites with "exceptional" international value.

Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said that the draft resolution was presented by the Arab group at the UNESCO with the support of Arab, Muslim and friendly countries.

The international decision asserts the illegality of the Israeli occupation's measures practised in Hebron and the Israeli attempts to impose new status quos.

Momani noted that the achievement contributes to protecting the city from the dangers caused by the occupation.
