AMMAN — Jordan reaffirmed that it will not send troops to Gaza, underscoring its humanitarian and diplomatic role in supporting ceasefire efforts and post-war reconstruction, as regional and international actors intensify talks on the future of the war-torn enclave.
Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said in a recent interview with Sky News Arabia that Jordan’s stance is “clear and “consistent.’
“ The Kingdom will not take part in any military mission in Gaza,” he said. “Jordan will not send troops to Gaza. Its role remains humanitarian and diplomatic, focused on facilitating aid, supporting reconstruction, and advancing peace diplomacy,” Momani said. “Amman’s approach aligns with its long-standing position of promoting stability and rejecting escalation.” Momani stressed that Jordan’s influence derives from its credibility and ability to coordinate internationally rather than through direct military involvement. “The Kingdom’s strength lies in bridging efforts and ensuring the effective flow of humanitarian assistance.”
Political analysts said Jordan’s decision not to send troops is both measured and strategic, reflecting Amman’s preference for diplomacy over confrontation. Amer Sabaileh, a political analyst, said the decision is “logical and prudent at this stage,” noting that “many aspects of the proposed international force remain unclear.” Sabaileh said, “It’s still unclear how such a force would be structured, who would lead it, what its mandate would be, and under what international framework it would operate.”
"Jordan cannot assume responsibilities that may exceed its capacities, as agreeing now would be a step into the unknown." Mohammad Masalha, a political scientist and former Lower House secretary-general, said Jordan’s role remains fundamentally humanitarian and grounded in solidarity with the Palestinian people. “Jordan’s assistance to Gaza stems from a moral and national duty, not from any political ambition to shape Gaza’s future,” Masalha said.
“If an international mission is ever approved by the United Nations, Jordan may coordinate with Arab partners in a limited monitoring capacity, but always with the consent of the Palestinian side.” Analysts agree that Jordan’s clear stance reinforces its image as a credible, stabilising force that relies on diplomacy, humanitarian leadership, and international coordination to manage regional crises rather than military engagement. Since the onset of the Gaza war in October 2023, Jordan has played a leading humanitarian role, conducting over 160 Royal Jordanian Air Force airdrops and coordinating international aid convoys into the enclave. The Kingdom has also hosted regional consultations aimed at ensuring sustained relief delivery and supporting reconstruction efforts, reaffirming its position as a trusted mediator and a voice of moderation in a turbulent region.
