AMMAN — The Kingdom’s consumption of cement in 2019 dropped by 25 per cent in comparison with 2018, a decrease attributed to the poor performance of the construction sector.
The local market’s consumption of the commodity in 2019 totalled 3.1 million tonnes, compared with 4.1 million tonnes in 2018, said Mohammed Abu Soufah, head of the Future Society for Cement Traders.
He attributed the decline to the limited projects implemented by official bodies, which are regarded as “the engine of the sector”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
