AMMAN — Jordan advanced to their first-ever FIFA Arab Cup final after securing a 1–0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the semi-final played on Monday at Al Bayt Stadium in Doha, in the presence of HRH Crown Prince Hussein.
The Nashama squad was without key striker Yazan Naimat, who missed the match through injury, and the opening half unfolded at a slow tempo, with Saudi Arabia enjoying slightly more control. Saudi players appealed for a penalty in the 38th minute, but the referee waved play on following a VAR review.
Jordan coach Jamal Sellami made a tactical adjustment at the start of the second half, introducing Mohammad Abu Zraiq in a bid to add more attacking threat. The change proved effective, as Jordan took greater control of the match and created several chances.
Jordan’s dominance paid off when Nizar Rashdan opened the scoring with a header from the centre of the box, connecting with a well-delivered cross from Mahmoud Mardi.
Saudi Arabia came close to equalising in the 70th minute, when Feras Brikan produced their most dangerous effort, but Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila made a crucial save to deny him.
After taking the lead, Jordan adopted a compact defensive approach, relying on counterattacks while maintaining a disciplined back line. Abulaila and the Jordanian defence remained solid under pressure until the final whistle. Saudi Arabia were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time, when Waleed Ahmad was shown a red card.
With the win, Jordan booked a place in the final against Morocco, scheduled for Thursday at Lusail Stadium in Doha.
