Jordan advances 9 places in 2024 Global Knowledge Index

AMMAN — Jordan has moved up nine spots in the 2024 Global Knowledge Index (GKI), ranking 88th out of 141 countries, compared with 97th out of 133 in 2023, reflecting ongoing national efforts to enhance the country’s standing in key global benchmarks.

The 2024 annual report on the Economic Modernisation Vision 2023-2025 outlines the government’s strategy to improve Jordan’s performance in various international rankings. 

As part of these initiatives, the Economic Modernisation Committee has developed and distributed an executive action plan to all relevant national institutions, ensuring a cooperative approach to progress.

A key focus has been the Global Innovation Index, where the government has introduced a roadmap aimed at improving Jordan’s ranking.

Economist Waseem Hussein told The Jordan Times that a structured, long-term approach is essential for fostering a knowledge-driven economy. 

“Sustained progress in global indices requires a comprehensive commitment to innovation, education, and research,” he said, adding that “if properly implemented, the government’s strategic direction could lead to significant economic growth.”

Economic policy expert Laila Ibraheem stressed the importance of private sector involvement.

 “Government-led initiatives are crucial, but true innovation thrives when different institutions collaborate,” she noted.
