AMMAN — A joint statement was issued on Saturday, following a meeting that brought together Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi, Iraqi Foreign Affairs Minister Fuad Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry, calling for the activation of cooperation in several areas.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The joint statement said that the meeting aimed to boost the partnership between the three countries and came within the framework of the trilateral cooperation mechanism, according to a ministry statement.

The ministers discussed ways of activating cooperation in several economic and political areas. They agreed on the importance of finalising projects between the countries and initiating new ideas and projects in the areas of electricity, connectivity, renewable energy, telecommunications, trade, industry, transport, health, pharmaceutical industries, housing, reconstruction, culture, tourism, youth and sports. They also discussed areas of security and defence cooperation.

The ministers also discussed the latest developments in the region, highlighting the importance of achieving security and stability, in particular the Palestinian issue and the importance of restoring inalienable Palestinian rights.

The three ministers also discussed methods to find a solution to the crisis in Syria, particularly through the efforts of the Arab Contact Group, in a manner that recognises the interests of the Syrian people and ends their suffering.

They also agreed to continue coordination in preparation for the upcoming trilateral summit, which is scheduled to be held in Cairo.
