AMMAN — Arzaq project, one of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation’s women enabling projects, has completed theoretical and practical trainings in sewing and cooking skills.

The project is supported by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and funded by the Danish government, according to a JHCO statement.

Training courses included teaching women the basics and art of sewing and cooking to empower them economically, where each woman has received 48 hours of training that covered all the basic intensive information in addition to life skills trainings.

Upon finishing the course, each trainee received a production kit to assist her in launching her own home-based business, the statement said.

The project achieved its goal by training 64 Jordanian and Syrian refugees, who were selected based on specific standards from women households.

The Arzaq project — one of the JHCO’s sustainable projects that was established in 2016 — has been noticed by international charities and private sector companies which will lead to funding more training courses as it has a “great impact” on women and their families where many success stories of new home-based businesses have emerged.

The project includes a training facility and a community kitchen targeting Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanian women to enhance their access to employment opportunities and livelihoods, the statement said.
