JEA launches campaign to renovate houses for vulnerable families

AMMAN — The Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) recently launched its annual campaign that aims to renovate houses belonging to underprivileged families. 

Bashar Tarawneh, the director of the social responsibility committee at JEA, said the families’ houses were chosen in accordance with studies conducted by JEA. 

“There is lack of campaigns that target this aspect so we thought the timing is good ahead of winter time,” he told The Jordan Times in an interview on Monday. 

The president of JEA, Ahmad Al Zoubi, said the campaign is carried out with association’s social responsibility towards the local community in mind. 

 He also called on social, civic and engineering associations in addition to engineering companies, traders and businessmen to contribute to the campaign. 

Dubbed “Fazaat Ahil”, this will be the campaign’s third consecutive year. 

“A total of 34 houses were renovated when the campaign was first initiated. This year, we have renovated 20 houses. The rehabilitation of each house costs between JD3,000 and JD6,000,” the JEA official added. 

Tarawneh added that they broadcasted a live donation campaign via radio station to collect donations from people.

“Some people pay money while others like construction companies donate their services. Also JEA’s role is targeting the technical aspects of the project,” he said. 

He noted that the campaign is ongoing and every year they hold an official announcement to notify people who are willing to donate. 

“We distribute the donations to the JEA offices in the governorates because the projects cover the entire Kingdom,” he added.
