AMMAN — President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir participated in the Asia Employers' Summit in Tokyo, organised by the International Organisation of Employers (IOE).

During the event, Jaghbir spoke about the role of the Jordanian industry in employment, highlighting the industrial sector as the largest employer in the Kingdom and one of the most important components of the national economy, according to a JCI statement.

Jaghbir said the number of workers in the industrial sector currently stands at around 250,000, representing 21 per cent of the total local workforce.

Jaghbir added that the industrial sector also contributes to sustainable development and providing new jobs for Jordanian youth.

Jaghbir participated in a specialised session on supply chains, during which he reviewed mechanisms for developing supply chains and the challenges they faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as interruptions and rises in transport costs.

Jaghbir highlighted the role of the industrial sector in ensuring the sustainability of goods as well as what the JCI provided to support employers and engage with the government in developing supply chains.

Jaghbir also met with several heads of Arab and Asian chambers and federations and discussed cooperation between the JCI and these institutions.

The summit also discussed important topics such as how to enhance  the competitiveness of companies in the Asia Pacific region and Arab countries  and boosting cooperation among member organisations.
