AMMAN — The Jordan Customs Department (JCD) thwarted the getaway of a pickup truck transporting 27 tonnes of smuggled food, the JCD said on Monday. The JCD’s anti-smuggling patrols chased the vehicle and damaged its tyres, the department said in a statement.
The driver was arrested and the food products are undergoing health and safety checks, the department said. JCD anti-smuggling personnel also foiled an attempt to smuggle 50 carats of diamonds, found during an inspection of a truck carrying 15 tonnes of clothing.
