AMMAN — Personnel at the Jaber Customs centre, in cooperation with security bodies, have foiled an attempt to smuggle 7,000 cartons of cigarettes into the Kingdom, each containing 10-20 cigarette packs, Jordan Customs Department (JCD) Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Imad Nusair said on Saturday.
Customs personnel suspected a truck in the inspection yard and sent the vehicle to an X-ray test, which resulted in the detection of the smuggled items, Nusair said in a JCD statement cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
JCD Director General Abdulmajid Rahamneh said that detecting the smuggled items is a result of coordination between the JCD and security personnel, and is part of wider efforts to protect the national economy.
