AMMAN — The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) on Thursday provided the families of the victims of the Aqaba gas leak incident with financial assistance of $5,000 for each death.
The chlorine gas leak incident at Aqaba port happened when a chlorine gas cylinder fell while being loaded onto an anchored ship, leaving 13 people being killed.
Emphasising the federation’s solidarity with dockworkers who passed away during the cargo operations at Aqaba and their families, ITF Arab World Regional Secretary Bilal Malkawi said the financial aid is a way to help families cope with the loss.
The victims' families expressed appreciation for the humanitarian gesture, noting that they are still waiting for the results of the probes related to the incident, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
