AMMAN — Ambassador of Ireland to Jordan Vincent O’Neill marked the Embassy of Ireland’s participation in the Global Greening 2021 by shining bright green lights on one of Jordan’s well-known sites, the Le Royal Hotel on Monday, according to an embassy statement.
The year 2020 marks the 12th anniversary of Tourism Ireland. People across the world instantly identify St Patrick’s Day with the island of Ireland, and St Patrick’s Day is an opportunity to promote Ireland in the world, the statement said.
In his remarks during the ceremony, the ambassador said: “Given the difficult moment the entire world is currently experiencing, it was wonderful to be able to shine a green light in Amman tonight, showing our strong connection to Jordan, and to the entire Irish diaspora and friends of Ireland in Jordan.
Let this light remind all that Ireland can’t wait to welcome you back to its shores once travel is once again possible. We stand in solidarity with Jordanians in the fight against COVID-19.” The tourism sector in Ireland, as in Jordan, is central to the economy. The Global Greening Initiative is a valuable part of this strategy, the statement said.
