AMMAN — Irbid Governorate Council on Thursday rejected a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs allocating JD3.5 million from the governorate’s budget for a project to build parking spaces in the new travel complex planned by the municipality of Irbid, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The majority of the council’s members voted not to move capital allocated for projects listed on the governorate’s budget for this purpose, following the meeting, held by the council’s Chairman Omar Maqableh on Thursday.
Members in the council pointed out that the municipality can implement the project by itself or through grants, support programmes, or agreements concluded with the private sector without the need to deduct part of the governorate’s budget, which they described as a meagre and limited budget, and they also stressed the need to keep the projects listed on the governorate’s budget without any change.
