AMMAN — The Civil Coalition for Monitoring Parliamentary Elections (Rased) on Wednesday said potential candidates for the Irbid 2nd District seat, which became vacant following the death of Deputy Mohammad Khasawneh, have not had the legally required 60-day period to resign their public positions.
By law, candidates should have resigned on August 28, nearly one month prior to the death of Khasawneh, to be able to apply on the date set by the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) for candidacy applications (October 26-28).
Rased called on the IEC board of commissioners to ask the Constitutional Court to look into the constitutionality of the candidacy date and find a solution.
