AMMAN — Preparations are under way to hold a meeting for the Jordanian-Iraqi joint committee this year.
In a statement sent to The Jordan Times on Saturday, Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Safia Al Souhail said consultations are going on for the meeting of the committee that is headed by Iraqi Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali.
She did not specify the venue of the meeting.
The envoy added that there will be several meetings this year to bolster cooperation between the two countries, including a visit by Jordanian businessmen to Iraq by the end of this month to discuss future strategic cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Rebuild Iraq conference and exhibition, organised by the Arab League’s Federation of Arab Contractors and the Ministry of Public Works, will open in Amman on Sunday, said a statement issued by the Iraqi embassy in Jordan on Saturday.
Several Iraqi officials and investors will take part in the conference that will take place under the patronage of Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour to showcase the neighbouring country’s investment opportunities.
Iraqi officials will also present the investment law, the Iraqi banks in the rebuilding process and investment opportunities in Baghdad, Ninawa, Anbar and Basra governorates, in addition to the country’s needs of hospitals and schools, among other vital facilities and projects.
