AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and Iraqi President Fuad Massoum on Thursday discussed the "deep-rooted" relations between the two countries, the latest developments in Iraq and current regional issues.

During their meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty and Massoum reaffirmed the solid relations between Jordan and Iraq and highlighted the importance of increasing cooperation and coordination at all levels, especially in the political, economic and security fields, according to a Royal Court statement.

Talks also focused on the military achievements of the Iraqi government in its war against Daesh, as well as efforts exerted towards achieving national reconciliation that includes all components of the Iraqi people.

Massoum outlined the advancements made on the ground in fighting Daesh and freeing the swathes of land previously controlled by the terror organisation, stressing that all Iraqis are working together to defeat Daesh.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of intensifying regional and international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, stressing the need for continuous coordination and consultation among all stakeholders within a holistic strategy.

Massoum, who arrived in Amman earlier in the day to take part in the World Economic Forum (WEF), slated for May 19-21, called on all Arabs to stand by and support Iraq, and praised the Kingdom’s efforts at maintaining the stability  of Iraq.

Senior officials from both countries attended the talks.

Massoum met later with Senate President Faisal Al Fayez, who reiterated Jordan’s solidarity with Iraq as it fights terrorists.
