Interpol office arrests seven suspects wanted internationally

AMMAN — Jordan’s Interpol office has recently arrested seven suspects who are wanted internationally, the Public Security Department (PSD) announced on Wednesday.

The office in Amman turned over a suspect to Saudi authorities who is wanted for writing two dishonoured cheques worth 3.84 million Saudi riyals (some JD722,490), according to a PSD statement.

Abu Dhabi's Interpol office referred to Amman's office a suspect wanted by Jordanian authorities for writing a bad cheque for JD20,000.

The other five suspects apprehended in the Kingdom were referred to Jordanian judicial authorities to consider the extradition requests by the countries that had issued international warrants against them.

One of the five is wanted by Iraqi authorities for a counterfeit case of $2.1 million (some JD1.48 million), while another is wanted by Saudi authorities for charges related to fraud and leaving the country illegally, the statement added.

Another suspect is wanted by Bahraini authorities for molestation charges, and a further suspect is wanted in Saudi Arabia for fraud worth 25.46 million Saudi riyals (around JD4.8 million).

An Egyptian was referred to Jordanian authorities on charges related to forgery and fraud, the statement added.

The Interpol office in Amman also said it received information about Arab nationals who randomly call Jordanian phone numbers to sell forged artefacts and pieces of gold, alleging they found these items while digging for antiquities.

The office urged the public to be careful and to call 911 to file complaints if they receive such calls.
