Interior Ministry, UNDP sign memo to combat extremism

AMMAN — The Interior Ministry and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the national strategy for combating extremism, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Interior Minister Mazen Qadi and UNDP Country Director Zena Ahmad signed the deal, which Qadi said is part of Jordan’s efforts to counter extremism and enhance cooperation with the UN agency through a national strategy to be used as a model for all parties working on combating terrorism and enhancing inter-cultural and religious dialogue.

Ahmad said the memo is compatible with the agency’s vision to boost sustainable development and eradicate poverty, enable women and spread good governance.

Under the agreement, the UNDP will provide technical and consultation services to the Interior Ministry for the purpose of supporting its efforts to develop the national strategy to combat extremism, particularly among the youth.
