AMMAN — The industrial producer price index went up by 0.17 per cent in the first third of 2023, amounting to 136.99 points against 136.76 points in the same period of 2022, figures by the Department of Statistics (DoS) showed on Monday.

The DoS report revealed that this uptrend comes as a result of a 20.96 per cent increase in the extractive industries prices index, although transformative industries and electricity prices indexes decreased by 0.97 per cent and 9.30 per cent, respectively, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In April 2023, the producer’s prices index went down by 6.5 per cent, reaching 136.35 points compared with 145.83 during the same month of 2022, the report showed.

The main contributors to the monthly decrease were transformative industries with an 8.08 per cent contribution to the overall reduction followed by electricity with 8.53 per cent, while the extractive industries prices index increased by 13.45 per cent.

Meanwhile, the General Industrial Production Quantities index decreased by 2.52 per cent in the first third of 2023, reaching 88.52 points against 90.81 in the same period of 2022, Petra reported citing DoS figures.

The drop was mainly attributed to a 3.24 per cent reduction in quantities of transformative industries and a 0.98 per cent in electricity, although extractive industry quantities rose by 3.67 per cent.

The report showed a 4.6 per cent decrease in the index during April 2023, going down to 88.21 points compared with 92.47 in April of last year.

The monthly decrease was due to a decline in transformative industries by 5.97 per cent, while extractive industries and electricity went up by 3.28 and 5.82 per cent, respectively, in the same month.
