AMMAN — Indian Ambassador to Jordan Manish Chauhan stressed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Kingdom, at the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah, represents a “historic milestone” in the course of bilateral relations.
The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and opens broad horizons for a new phase of strategic partnership between India and Jordan.
In a statement to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Sunday, the ambassador said that the two leaders share a distinguished personal relationship, noting that the visit is expected to include substantive and in-depth talks that will yield practical outcomes with a direct impact on various areas of cooperation.
He added that the discussions will reflect the two countries’ shared vision for peace, stability, growth, and prosperity.
Chauhan highlighted the steady growth in economic cooperation, noting that trade volume between the two countries reached about $2.875 billion during 2023–2024, making India Jordan’s fourth-largest trading partner.
The diplomat described the Indian-Jordanian Fertiliser Company project, valued at around $860 million, as a successful model of investment cooperation.
The project, inaugurated in 2015, contributes to the production and export of phosphoric acid to India, he added.
On education and capacity building, the ambassador said that the Indian-Jordanian Centre of Excellence in Information Technology, established by the Indian government at Al Hussein Technical University, provides advanced training programmes for 150 Jordanian trainers and experts, in addition to 50 training courses for Jordanian government employees under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme.
He also noted that India offers five postgraduate scholarships annually to Jordanians through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
The diplomat pointed out that around 2,500 Jordanians graduated from Indian universities, while nearly 500 Jordanian students are currently studying in India.
Chauhan added that India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy and has made significant advances in start-ups, manufacturing, defence, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing, creating wide opportunities to enhance cooperation with Jordan in future-oriented sectors.
He stressed that the Indian-Jordanian partnership goes beyond economy, noting that India highly values His Majesty’s pivotal role in promoting dialogue and regional peace.
Citing a phrase frequently used by Prime Minister Modi, the ambassador said, “This is not an era of war,” underscoring India’s support for peace and belief in humanity.
The ambassador added that the momentum generated by Modi’s visit, along with subsequent high-level exchanges, will help achieve tangible results that serve the interests of both peoples.
He stressed that significant untapped potential remains to be activated within the framework of India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision and the modernisation and development plans led by King Abdullah.
