IEC chief, Canadian ambassador talk political modernisation

AMMAN — Chief Commissioner of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Musa Maaytah on Sunday met with Canada’s Ambassador to Jordan Tariq Ali Khan to discuss cooperation regarding the IEC’s strategy to implement the Kingdom's political modernisation plans.

Maaytah reviewed the commission's plans and key priorities, with a particular focus on the upcoming parliamentary elections, an IEC statement said. The commission has already initiated technical and logistical preparations to ensure that the upcoming elections will be a significant milestone in Jordan's democratic journey, he said.

Both parties stressed the importance of collaboration in politically empowering women and youth, enhancing the role of political parties and improving political representation.
