AMMAN — Today marks the 79th birthday of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal.
Jerusalem has remained a central priority of HRH’s activities. In May 2025, the second international conference Jerusalem Historians: Jerusalem – Where To? was held in Amman under HRH’s patronage, with the participation of historians, archaeologists, and scholars from across the world.
The conference reaffirmed the integrity of Jerusalem as a city of shared space and shared heritage, stressing the need to preserve its sacred character. The same emphasis on coexistence and the shared heritage of the Mashreq was central to the conference Christians in the Arab Levant: Ambitions of Unity and Enlightenment, hosted in Amman by His Royal Highness, which brought together Eastern Christian clerics alongside Muslim and Christian scholars.
His Royal Highness’ recent international engagements have likewise been guided by his commitment to human dignity. At the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development in Kuwait, His Royal Highness presented a roadmap calling for a greater participatory regional approach based on policy dialogue, evidence-based decision-making and inclusive representation. The same priorities were reflected in a workshop held in Amman in April 2025 entitled Nuclear Security in the Middle East and North Africa: Keeping Pace with an Evolving World, which underlined the need for mutual accountability, and a shared regional approach to security.
In engagements in Athens, Helsinki, and Paris, the message was that, as has been said, “peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice”.
In the year ahead, His Royal Highness looks forward to continuing his efforts, in the belief that dignity, shared prosperity, and respect for our common heritage are the necessary foundations for stability in the region and beyond.
