AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Saturday said holding the Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) in the Kingdom on Wednesday will be an indication of Jordan’s important international status and the importance of its diplomatic parliamentary role, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Some 500 women involved in parliaments and politics from 86 countries are scheduled to take part in the WIP Summit to be held for the first time in the Kingdom and the Middle East and North Africa Region, Tarawneh said in a joint press statement with the founder of WIP, Silvana Koch-Mehrin, and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development Deputy Secretary General Marie Kiviniemi.

He added that it is important to come up with significant results after the forum to enable women to reach decision-making positions.
