AMMAN — Minister of Agriculture Khalid Hneifat on Thursday met with Romanian Parliament Speaker Marcel Ciolacu. During Hniefat’s official visit to Bucharest to chair the second session of the Jordanian-Romanian Joint Agricultural Committee meetings, talks focused on several issues related to Jordanian-Romanian relations, including ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, increase trade exchange with the Kingdom and remove any barriers to bilateral trade.
The two sides agreed to increase the level of agricultural exchange, provide training opportunities to veterinarians and agricultural engineers in Romanian institutes. They also agreed that the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture would be granted five annual missions to Romania for veterinary medicine.
Moreover, the officials coordinated to develop a plan to adopt Jordan as a regional hub for distributing Romanian wheat to Arab countries based on Jordan's successful experience using horizontal grain containers within food security plans. Additionally, discussions were held on adopting Jordan as a regional centre for Romanian meat and live animals in the region, and in return, adopting Romania as a regional centre for exporting Jordanian fertilisers and pesticides to the rest of Europe, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The two sides also agreed to receive a Romanian delegation to review the quarantine procedures in Jordan, and to improve local information and expertise in this regard.
