Heatwave impacting Kingdom is hottest of its kind since 1922 — weather department

AMMAN — According to the records at the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD), the current heatwave impacting the Kingdom is the hottest of its kind since 1922, the head of the JMD's weather forecast department at the Transport Ministry said on Tuesday.

Raed Al Khattab added that the hot air mass impacting the Kingdom reached its peak on Sunday and Monday, and will continue throughout the week.

The heatwave will become more intense as of Thursday, with a possibility of extending until the middle of next week, according to a JMD statement.

The weather department urged citizens to keep up with the latest updates and heed warnings and public safety instructions.

The temperatures in Amman on Wednesday will see a high of 37° Celsuis during the day and a low of 22°C at night, while on Thursday temperatures are expected to range between 41°C and 25°C. On Friday, temperatures are forecast to range between 42°C and 26°C.

In Aqaba, temperatures are predicted to range between 42°C and 24°C on Wednesday and between 44°C and 26°C on Thursday, while on Friday they are expected to range between 43°C and 27°C, according to the JMD.
