AMMAN — MP Bassam Manasir, who heads the Lower House Committee on Foreign Affairs, on Monday met with Dutch Ambassador Paul van den IJssel.
Stressing the strong relations between Jordan and the Netherlands, Manasir noted that the House believes in freedom of expression and is against extremism, pointing out that the cartoon of Prophet Mohammad published last week by French magazine Charlie Hebdo incites terrorism.
Manasir called for increasing exchange visits between Parliament and its Western counterparts to help clarify the true image of Islam.
The ambassador lauded Jordan’s role in promoting peace, stressing the importance of bridging the gap between different cultures and averting misunderstanding.
