AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Monday issued a directive to all government ministries, institutions, and departments instructing them to cooperate exclusively with members of the Jordan Press Association (JPA).
The circular prohibits inviting or allowing non-syndicate members to cover any official events, meetings, or visits by official delegations, according to a Prime Ministry statement.
It also stipulates that media coverage of official activities would be limited to journalists registered with the JPA and those working for licensed media outlets, in accordance with the JPA Law No. 15 of 1998 and the Publications and Press Law No. 8 of 1998, along with their amendments.
In a statement, the JPA welcomed the prime minister’s circular, noting that it responds directly to the association’s call to end the ongoing chaos caused by individuals impersonating journalists and media professionals on social media platforms, in clear violation of legal regulations.
The association also commended Hassan for his prompt response, highlighting his long-standing respect and appreciation for media outlets that uphold professionalism and responsibility.
The JPA also pointed to the positive cooperation between the government, the JPA, and the journalistic community, reflecting strong recognition of the essential role played by the fourth estate.
The association also urged all parties to cooperate for the benefit of the profession, government bodies, the private sector, and society at large. It also emphasised that the issue of impersonators has become increasingly alarming and requires decisive action to stop violations damaging both the profession’s integrity and Jordan’s reputation.
