Hashemite Fund, Tajanus Company sign MoU for agricultural projects in Badia

AMMAN — The Hashemite Fund for the Jordanian Badia Development and the Supporting Agricultural Projects Company signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the possibility of establishing agricultural projects in the Badia regions.
The memorandum was signed by the Director General of the fund Jamal Fayez and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tajanus Company Khalil Abu Rub, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Fayez said that the memorandum comes as part of the fund's efforts to improve the living standards of the residents of the Jordanian Badia, create job opportunities to reduce poverty and unemployment rates, attract investments to the Badia regions to achieve living stability for its residents and drive sustainable development.
He added that in light of the memorandum, which includes several phases, the project's mechanisms and its productive, agricultural and technical inputs will be expanded sequentially after each phase.
Fayez noted that the project will focus in its first phase on cultivating strategic crops such as forage corn, traditional wheat, triticale (a hybrid of wheat and rye), flax seeds and soybeans.
He noted that the project includes two agricultural cycles throughout the year, which will provide 30 job opportunities for the local community.
Fayez pointed out that the cultivated areas and the number of job opportunities can be gradually increased to achieve the project's full strategic goals.
