Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem reaffirms Hashemite Custodianship

AMMAN — Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III on Sunday emphasized the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, stressing the exclusive authority of the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department to administer the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque.

He added that any interference in the freedom of worship is a violation of Muslims rights and contravenes human rights conventions, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. He also called for respecting the sanctity of Ramadan, notably ensuring worshippers protection.
