Gov’t workshop of traffic safety highlights figures of child victims in car accidents

AMMAN — A total of 3,499 people died, 1,027 of which were children, and 80,564 were injured among whom were 22,553 children (under 18), in traffic accidents over the last five years, Director of the Jordan Traffic Institute (JTI) Col. Mahmoud Zu’bi said on Thursday, according to an official statement, carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

During a workshop on the role of educational institutions in raising student awareness of the dangers of traffic accidents, Zu’bi stated that children constitute the majority of the victims.

He also stressed the need to communicate with all segments of the community to work towards safer streets. The workshop, organised by the JTI and in cooperation with Education Ministry, recommended developing a curriculum that includes traffic education content in partnership with the JTI, forming a committee to check on the streets near schools and providing public safety requirements.
