AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged on Monday Jordanian citizens to avoid travelling to Lebanon, out of concern for their safety in light of current regional developments.

Also on Monday, the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) said that the suspension of flights to Beirut by the national carrier is a precautionary measure based on a risk assessment of flights.

In a statement, the commission assured that it will monitor the situation and take the necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of flights.

Many countries suspended flights to Beirut including Germany's national airline Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines and Greek carrier Aegean Airlines.

Tensions between Israel and the Lebanese militia Hizbollah have risen after a rocket attack on a football field in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday killed 12 children. Both Israel and Hizbollah have denied responsibility for the attack.

The two sides have been engaged in low-level hostilities for several months after Israel started its war on Gaza.

On Sunday, Israel’s security Cabinet granted prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government authorisation to retaliate.
