AMMAN — The Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs at the Foreign Ministry said it was closely following the case of two Jordanian citizens killed after being recruited to fight with the Russian army.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali said the ministry was monitoring attempts by foreign entities to recruit Jordanians illegally, describing such acts as violations of both Jordanian and international law that put citizens’ lives at risk.
Majali urged citizens to report any recruitment attempts and warned against engaging with them due to the associated dangers and legal consequences, according to a ministry statement.
The ministry also noted that it has called on Russian authorities to stop recruiting Jordanians and to terminate any previous enlistments, adding that all available legal and diplomatic measures will be taken to stop such operations.
He also warned against online networks attempting to recruit Jordanians, noting that the ministry, in coordination with national institutions, was tracking these entities to enforce the law.
“Recruiting Jordanians into a foreign army constitutes a serious breach of international law, Jordan’s international obligations, and national legislation criminalising participation in foreign militaries,” Majali said.
