AMMAN — The government will organise a number of entertainment activities in all governorates across the Kingdom during Ramadan, Minister of Government Communications Faisal Shboul said on Sunday.

His remarks were made during a meeting at the Jordan News Agency, Petra in Amman with journalists and editors-in-chief representing a number of local media outlets.

Shboul noted that the activities, which will be accessible for all members of the public free of charge, will be held every Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting from the second week of Ramadan.

These include poetry readings, children’s theatre shows, bazaars and sports events, including five-a-side football matches with the participation of roughly 11,000 youth from all governorates, he said.

In Amman, the entertainment activities will be held at King Abdullah II Gardens, the Roman Theatre and Wakalat Street, the minister added.

The events will be organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Social Development and Government Communications Ministry in addition to municipalities, according to Shboul.

He pointed out that those participating with civil society organisations and charitable associations will be provided with free spaces, with the support of the Social Development Ministry.

The government will also launch various charity campaigns, which will include distributing over 130,000 food stamps and roughly 12,000 charity parcels to help households in need in addition to providing cash assistance, he said, noting that 22 iftar banquets will be held at various shelter centres in Jordan.

On a different note, Shboul also stressed that the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply is regularly overseeing the market, monitoring prices and ensuring the availability of all food and consumer goods.
