AMMAN — The government has allocated JD18 million to support public universities, which suffer from “big” debts and increasing deficits in their budgets, Education Minister Walid Maani said on Sunday.
During a lecture organised by the Jordan Association for Educational Sciences, Maani highlighted the importance of finding suitable solutions for the difficult financial conditions of state-owned universities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The minister called on universities to adopt procedures to reduce expenditures and address financial difficulties. He added that the total debt of public universities has reached JD108.5 million with a deficit of JD18.5 million by the end of last year, “which required the government to take steps to address the issue”.
