Girl, allegedly forced to beg by her father, sent to care centre

AMMAN — A 17-year-old girl on Thursday was taken into custody by the Ministry of Social Development's Anti-Vagrancy Department after her father allegedly forced her to panhandle near a traffic light in Amman's Deir Al Ghubar region.
The ministry said that investigations revealed that the father has a criminal record involving 22 cases, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. The 17-year-old girl told the investigators that she wished to go to school, but her father refused and sent her out to panhandle, noting that her father stays around her to keep a close eye on her. The girl was taken to a rehabilitation and care centre.
