George Kordahi appointed chairman of Messengers of Peace Amman

AMMAN — The regional Amman office of the international organisation the Messengers of Peace (MoP) appointed former Lebanese information minister George Kordahi as chairman on Tuesday.

Kordahi stressed his commitment to advancing the organisation's efforts for public good in the year ahead.

The newly appointed chairman, introduced during a ceremony in Amman, highlighted that the MoP “is an organisation that has no purpose other than the service of human beings, regardless of religion, race or affiliation”.

Kordahi, emphasising that the Arab region has been jolted by successive wars and crises and is “in dire need of messengers of peace”, noted that the organisation is committed to realising its humanitarian, charitable and social goals.

MoP Country Director Nour Al Saidah gave a brief account of the organisation’s activities since its establishment in the Kingdom.

Today, the MoP serves around 15,000 individuals in Jordan, Saidah said.

“By the end of this year, our aim is to support another 3,000 persons, whether Jordanian families or refugees,” Saidah added.

According to Saidah, the organisation is set to provide 500 vulnerable students with an “inclusive education” through the establishment of the Messengers of Peace International Charity School this year.
Established in 1962 in Spain by Padre Ángel, the MoP is a non-profit organisation with no political affiliation that is devoted to promoting long-term human and social development, particularly among underprivileged populations.

The organisation was registered with the Ministry of Social Development in 2004 “to deliver protection, livelihood and education services to persons impacted by conflict, disaster or disease, no matter where they are or what their condition is”.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of INGOs and civil society organisations, government officials, the private sector and the media.
