AMMAN — HRH Prince Feisal, founder and chairman of Generations for Peace (GFP), on Friday received the first edition of the Count Jacques Rogge Award during an official ceremony held at the City Hall in Ghent, Belgium.
GFP became the first organisation to receive this esteemed international honour, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The ceremony was attended by HRH Princess Zeina Al Feisal, HRH Princess Aisha Bint Feisal, Prince Laurent and Princess Louise of Belgium, alongside several global diplomatic and sports figures.
The jury collectively chose GFP in recognition of its pioneering approach in using sports as a key pillar for peace building and conflict transformation.
The organisation uses sports activities as an educational tool to build resilience and promote social unity, supported by dialogue, advocacy, empowerment, and media to create a sustainable social impact.
Launched by Panathlon International Belgium, the award honours the humanitarian and sports legacy of the late Count Jacques Rogge, former president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which honours organisations that put youth and inclusivity at the heart of their programmes to achieve a tangible social impact worldwide.
Prince Feisal expressed his pride in the recognition, saying that GFP started from a deep belief that sports go beyond competition to serve as a tool for positive change and healing.
He added that over nearly two decades, the organisation has created a sustainable impact on the lives of over 1.4 million people across 52 countries, stressing GFP's commitment to continuing this humanitarian journey.
Established in Amman in 2007, GFP has become a global model for sustainable peace building and youth leadership empowerment.
Since its inception, it has trained over 30,000 young men and women worldwide, who in turn shared these skills within their local communities.
These efforts have received wide international recognition, including official support from the IOC.
GFP is currently ranked 24th among the top 200 non-governmental and social benefit organisations globally.
