GDP grows by 2.6% in third quarter

AMMAN — Jordan's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 2.6 per cent at fixed market prices in the third quarter of 2015, compared to the same quarter of 2014, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).
Most sectors recorded growth, with the extractive industries sector recording the highest growth rate of 17.5 per cent, according to a DoS statement issued on Sunday.
The electricity and water sector came second with a growth rate of 16.7 per cent, followed by the social and personal services sector, the private services sector, then the government services, transportation, storage and telecom sectors and finally agriculture.
In regard to sector contributions to the growth, that of the finance, insurance, real estate and business services sector witnessed a growth of 0.67 per cent, followed by the transport, storage and telecom sector, whose contribution achieved a 0.52 per cent growth.
The sectors of government services, electricity and water, manufacturing industries, social and personal services, and extractive industries also contributed to improving the growth in the third quarter, the statement said.
