AMMAN — Marking International Women’s Day and in an effort to support women’s economic empowerment in Jordan, Jerash Garments and Fashions Manufacturing Company on Monday announced 100 job openings for women at its Al Hasa production branch in Tafileh Governorate.
According to a statement shared with The Jordan Times, details about job applications and interviews will be announced on the company’s Facebook page by the end of March. The hiring process will be carried out in direct cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Labour.
The new job opportunities emphasise the company’s efforts to enhance women’s self-development and economic empowerment, as well as provide them with a healthy work environment, according to the statement.
“We give equal opportunity to all the female workers in our factory,” said Samuel Choi, chairman and CEO of Jerash Garments, which was established in 2000.
“About 60 per cent of our workers are female workers… around 40 per cent of the team heads are female employees,” he was quoted in the statement as saying.
“I started here as a worker, developed myself, and the company supported me. Now, I am in charge of 300 workers,” said Fatemah Salaitah, health and safety supervisor at the company’s Sahab branch.
Areej Al Zboun, who also works at the Sahab branch, said in the statement: “I am a university student. The company supports female students who combine work and study. I want to complete my study; it is my dream. I also want to support and develop myself.”
Jerash Garments produces 8 million ready-made garments and fashion items for international brands annually, with $100 million of exports every year, the statement said.
It operates five factories; four in the Tajamouat Industrial Zone in Sahab and one in Al Hasa, employing around 5,000 men and women, including 50 persons with disabilities.
About 250 females work at Al Hasa production branch, which houses facilities such as sports spaces and a childcare centre, read the statement.
