AMMAN — As temperatures reached their peak on Tuesday, the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) decided to suspend all field work during the afternoon.
A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Wednesday, but the weather is forecast to remain hot and dry in most regions with very hot temperatures in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba.
Bassem Tarawneh, GAM’s city deputy director for districts and environmental affairs, said that the municipality on Tuesday issued a warning to workers in the field not to overexpose themselves to sunlight, according to a GAM statement.
The hot air mass that is affecting the Kingdom is forecast to ease off on Thursday as temperatures are expected to decrease slightly, and be accompanied by northwesterly moderate to brisk winds, according to a Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) statement.
The maximum and minimum temperatures in Amman on Wednesday will range between a high of 39°C and a low of 24°C.
Aqaba is expected to receive temperatures reaching 44°C during the day and falling to 31°C at night, while the northern regions should hover around a high of 36°C during the day and 20°C at night, according to the JMD statement.
