AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality on Thursday will host a celebratory evening at King Faisal Square in the centre of Amman, in commemoration of the City Day.

The event will recall the history of Amman, envision its future, and review its development through various service projects. The celebrations are set to begin at 5pm.

GAM has invited the public to participate in the celebration, which includes cultural and artistic activities, free book distributions, Jordanian folklore performances by the GAM band, musical compositions by the Armed Forces Band, and a designated area for children to enjoy face painting and balloons.

The municipality also announced the launch of the "Amman through Our Eyes" photography competition for professionals and amateurs, with submissions due by March 16.

Furthermore, the municipality will organise a recreational activity for amateur cyclists starting at the beginning of 60th Street in Deir Ghbar next Friday.

The municipality has prepared a variety of events on the occasion of the City Day, which is celebrated annually on March 2, to be held over the next few days, including cultural, community and sports activities, and reopening newly renovated parks.

The city's landmarks — Jabal Al Qalaa, Abdoun Bridge, and the Roman Amphitheatre, among others — will light up in honour of the occasion, and citizens will be able to enter the car, tank, children's, and Old Signs of Amman museums for free, GAM announced.

Alternate traffic routes and detours will be implemented around the event to manage the flow of traffic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Wednesday.
