AMMAN — A security source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) has said that Eastern Military Zone units foiled two attempts to smuggle large amounts of narcotics on Sunday.

Border guards swept the area after neutralising the smugglers, the source added.

Some 362,000 Captagon pills and 50,000 Tramadol pills were seized in the first operation, in addition to 28 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 72,000 Captagon pills in the second, according to a JAF statement on the Army’s website.

The rules of engagement were applied, and the narcotics were transferred to the specialised authorities, the source said.

Meanwhile, another border infiltration attempt was also thwarted, as six people tried to cross into Jordan.

Four of the infiltrators were killed and the other two were injured and taken into custody, according to the JAF.

In October, the Eastern Military Zone, in close coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department and Military Security, thwarted the smuggling of large quantities of narcotics in the area separating the Jordanian-Syrian borders.

Five individuals were detected trying to infiltrate the border and were forced back into Syrian territories, according to JAF.

More than 600 thousand Captagon pills and seven palm-sized sheets of hashish were seized from the site.
