Foreign Ministry staff attends UAE court hearing involving Jordanian

AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said staff from the Jordanian embassy in Abu Dhabi attended a hearing in the trial of Jordanian journalist Tayseer Al Najjar, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Najjar has been detained in the UAE since December 2015, and has recently been charged with “offending the state”.

Sabah Al Rafie, the ministry’s spokes person, told Petra that two officials from the embassy attended the hearing, which was adjourned to February 14 to give Najjar’s lawyer more time to study the case. The ministry expressed appreciation for the UAE’s cooperation on the issue. Embassy personnel will attend all court hearings until the end of the case, Rafie added.
