AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that it was working to evacuate 61 Jordanian citizens from the Gaza Strip.
Sufian Qudah, the ministry's spokesperson, said that the evacuees have been cleared by the authorities at the Rafah border crossing to leave Gaza for Egypt.
A Jordanian embassy team, which has been on the Egyptian side of the crossing since the start of the evacuation operations, is overseeing the process and providing the evacuees with the needed help and medical care. The team is also arranging buses to transport them from the crossing to the Nuweiba port and Cairo, where they can take flights to the Kingdom, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Qudah said that the team would stay at the crossing until all the registered Jordanian citizens in Gaza were evacuated and assisted. He added that the number of Jordanians in Gaza who have signed up for evacuation since the Israeli aggression on Gaza has reached 1,247, of whom 764 have already returned.
