AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry, through its operations centre and the Jordanian embassy in Ankara, on Saturday said that it is following up on the condition of Jordanians in Turkey after the recent earthquake.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sinan Majali said that the operations centre is in contact with a Jordanian man who said that that his ex-wife, residing in Antakya, contacted him and informed him that the building she lived in with their daughter collapsed, and that the daughter was under the rubble, according to a ministry statement.

Majali said that the ministry contacted the consular team in Antakya to follow up on the case in coordination with Turkish authorities.

The spokesperson said that the consular team is still exerting efforts to look for Jordanians who remain unable to be contacted, in coordination with the Turkish authorities, rescue teams and hospitals.

He noted that the Jordanian embassy in Ankara relocated three Jordanian families and seven Jordanian students from the affected areas, and secured housing for them in shelters accredited by the municipality of Ankara.

Majali added that five other people were moved from Gaziantep to Ankara, and were then transported to the Kingdom. Travel documents and reservations were secured for several Jordanians wishing to leave Turkey, he said.

The cultural attaché at the embassy in Ankara also contacted Jordanian university students in earthquake-affected areas to check on their condition, the statement said.

The ministry's spokesperson reiterated that Jordanian citizens residing in Turkey can call for assistance 24 hours a day by calling the following numbers of the hotline of the Jordanian embassy in Ankara: 00905353648518, 00905384419586, 00905417899641, and 00905012575198, or the operations centre number at 00962795497777, or via e-mail: [email protected].
