AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned the storming of Al Aqsa Mosque / Al Haram Al Sharif by Israel’s far-right national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, under the protection of Israeli occupation authorities.
In a statement, the ministry described this action as a "blatant" violation of international law and unacceptable provocation, and a condemned escalation, reiterating that Israel holds no sovereignty over Al Aqsa Mosque.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Sufian Qudah, stressed the Kingdom’s absolute rejection and firm condemnation of the repeated incursions by the extremist minister and the facilitation by Israeli occupation police of similar repeated break-ins by settlers.
Qudah warned of the consequences of the continued provocative and illegitimate violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He also called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately halt all provocative actions by Ben-Gvir, which constitute part of the extremist Israeli government’s policy of dangerous escalation and unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.
He emphasised that Al Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, reiterating that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department is the sole authority responsible of supervising the holy site’s affairs according to international law and the legal and historical status quo.
