AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Thursday held talks with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries and recent developments in Gaza following the ceasefire agreement.
The two ministers welcomed the agreement and stressed the importance of full adherence to its terms, according to a foreign ministry statement.
The talks came ahead of a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, which will include the foreign ministers of Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE.
During the meeting, Safadi emphasised the significance of the agreement, stressing the need for its full implementation, an end to the war in Gaza, and measures to address its devastating consequences. He also called for practical and concerted efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza to avert the famine caused by the aggression.
He highlighted the pivotal role of US President Donald Trump in achieving the agreement, noting his proposal to end the war, facilitate humanitarian aid, prevent forced displacement, support reconstruction, and uphold his commitment to preventing the annexation of the West Bank.
Safadi expressed appreciation for the contributions of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in bringing about the agreement, and underlined the importance of stepping up efforts to secure a just and lasting peace, founded on the two-state solution and in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Safadi also highlighted the significance of the Two-State Solution conference held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, which aimed to mobilise a unified international position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and an independent, sovereign state on their national territory, based on the two-state solution, as organised by Saudi Arabia and France and reflected in the conference statement.
