AMMAN — The Jordan Football Association’s disciplinary committee on Wednesday suspended the penalty against Wihdat Club President Tarek Khoury.
The decision was taken after Khoury, who is also a Lower House deputy, attended the hearing held over a voice recording in which he allegedly says he has paid some clubs to ensure Wihdat win matches, Qais Zayadin, head of the disciplinary committee and also a lawmaker, told The Jordan Times.
Khoury had been prohibited from attending any football activity to “force him to attend the hearing”, Zayadin said.
The committee is investigating the matter, he added, noting that it will decide on the measures to take against Khoury if the allegations in the tape are proven to have taken place.
The secretary of Faisali Club, Wihdat’s rival and the party that filed the complaint against Khoury, will attend a hearing next Sunday and will be asked to produce any other piece of evidence to support these claims, noted Zayadin.
In addition to Zayadin, the disciplinary committee also includes Omar Lozi, Labeeb Musallam, Khaled Ghwairi, Ahmad Abu Sheikha and Muhammad Daboubi as members.
