AMMAN — In implementation of Royal directives, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Wednesday met with representatives from Tafileh Governorate at the Royal Hashemite Court.

The meeting followed a visit by His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein to Tafileh last week, where they met with dignitaries and representatives from the governorate as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

At the beginning of the meeting, Issawi, who is also the head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal initiatives, said that His Majesty, during his meeting with residents of Tafileh, stressed the importance of leveraging the governorate’s significant potential in tourism and agriculture.

During the meeting, attended by Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri, Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat, Tafileh Governor Omar Zyoud, Director General of the Department of Antiquities Fadi Balawi, and MPs of the governorate, attendees' demands focused on tourism and agriculture, and improving infrastructure and services.

They proposed projects that could revitalise sectors and help address poverty and unemployment in the governorate.

The attendees highlighted the need for local and foreign investments, which would significantly boost the governorate’s tourism and agricultural sectors.

They proposed establishing a special fund for the development of Tafileh, with contributions from these companies.

They also discussed Tafileh's natural, religious, archaeological, and medical tourism sites, stressing the importance of giving attention to these areas to fully utilise their potential, as tourism is one of the governorate’s main competitive advantages.

The representatives called for implementing a cable car project in the Dana area, which boasts stunning landscapes that could enhance its status on the tourism map.

They also highlighted the importance of agriculture, emphasising the need to utilise the water from dams, support farmers, and address the challenges they face seriously.

They pointed out the importance of supporting and training youth to benefit from the governorate’s competitive advantages, while also implementing sustainable development projects to help reduce poverty and unemployment, which is particularly high among the youth in Tafileh.

They also requested support for Tafileh Technical University, including the establishment of an agriculture faculty and another for medical professions, upgrading the engineering and science faculties' buildings, and addressing the university’s debt to enhance its role in sustainable development.

The attendees called for revitalising and attracting factories to the industrial city, noting that the level of investment in the area remains below expectations.

At the end of the meeting, Issawi said that all requests and proposals raised would be coordinated with relevant authorities for study and implementation based on priorities and available resources, in line with government plans and with follow-up from the Royal Hashemite Court.

Hneifat reaffirmed the Ministry of Agriculture’s readiness to support sustainable agricultural projects, which would positively impact citizens and create jobs for youth in the governorate, particularly through cooperative agricultural projects.
